8 Best Features of the MediaTek Helio G35 & G25

The new MediaTek Helio G35 and G25 are gaming-focused chips that take aim at entry-through-mainstream smartphones. In addition to streaming video, mobile gaming is now a preferred passtime for many, which means these two new G-series chips are vital to gamers looking for fresh and affordable options. If you're considering a smartphone featuring either of the two, here's 8 reasons why you should get one:
1) MediaTek HyperEngine: Performance Optimization
MediaTek HyperEngine Gaming Technology is a combination of technologies that go beyond the chip to optimize the whole smartphone. The performance optimization features include intelligent resource management that ensures sustained performance to minimize frame-rate dips, meaning your game never judders when the action gets heavy. It achieves this by dynamically balancing CPU, GPU and memory resources according to power, thermal and game-play intensity factors. Because the system isn't constantly maxed out you also get longer game-play on battery too!
2) MediaTek HyperEngine: Connectivity Enhancements
Smartphones mean gaming on the go, but they're no good if the internet connection is laggy, unstable or unreliable. MediaTek HyperEngine connectivity enhancements provide a faster response between phone and cell-tower, and more reliable connections to ensure you can always stay connected.
While it's connected to LTE the smartphone keeps an eye out for Wi-Fi networks it can connect to. When it finds one it can trigger a switch in just 13ms. That's less time than a single frame rendered when you're gaming at 60fps!
You don't know when you'll receive a phone call. But when a call comes in the modem will automatically shut down the data connection, even before the call has been accepted. MediaTek HyperEngine, however, keeps the data connection active until the call is accepted, so if you want to keep playing instead of talking, the call can be deferred without interrupting your game connection. Very useful!
3) Power-Efficient Performance
Both the G35 and G25 combine an octa-core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU and IMG PowerVR 8320 GPU in a 12nm chip. The difference is that the more premium G35 has a higher clocked CPU and GPU, providing a boost in performance. Combined with MediaTek HyperEngine resource management they punch above their weight and deliver great performance and longer battery life.
4) Reliable, global LTE connectivity
The G35 and G25 feature Advanced IMS (VoLTE\ViLTE\VoWi-Fi) that's now supported by cellular operators worldwide, plus global eMBMS and High-Performance User Equipment (HPUE) operating modes. All these improve the user experience, with greater connection reliability no matter where you travel.
MediaTek TAS 2.0 is smart antenna technology actively detects signal quality across the various internal antennas of the smartphone, then optimizes the connection around those with best signal strength.
When you need Wi-Fi and Bluetooth at the same time - for example wireless headphones and gamepads - both chips are designed to enable simultaneous co-existence, significantly boosting throughput and connection reliability when using both.
6) Carrier flexibility with dual 4G SIM (Dual VoLTE)
Dual 4G SIM gives you flexibility to choose which carriers you want to use for both calls, data and VoLTE (voice over LTE) or ViLTE (face-to-face video over LTE) services from either SIM slot (depending on your operator package). VoLTE/ViLTE significantly improve call quality and make initial call connection much faster.
7) Reliable, ultra-efficient location services
For location services, a dedicated GNSS sub-processor provides a fast and accurate location fix and ultra-low power use to extend battery life while you're using maps apps or similar services.
8) Multi-camera smartphones
MediaTek knows snapping pics and capturing videos is just as important as the gaming part of the G35 and G25. With that in mind, both chips support multi-camera smartphones to give a choice of zoom, wide, macro, bokeh or other capture styles. Single cameras up to 25MP on the G35 are supported. In addition, like all Helio chips, a series of dedicated camera engines are baked into the silicon to enhance the capture results. This includes:
- Hardware Depth Engine for fast and accurate bokeh captures
- Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS)
- Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) to mitigate 'jello' effects in fast-action panning
- Camera Control Unit for Instant Auto Exposure
