Johan Johansson elected as Chairman of 3GPP

Johan Johansson, Senior Standards Specialist at MediaTek, has been elected as the Chairman of 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project RAN Working Group 2), the world’s most prominent mobile technology standards organization. Johansson has over 25 years' experience in the cellular telecom industry and has been contributing to 3GPP RAN2 and RAN3 for over 15 years.

Since 2009, MediaTek has been actively working in close collaboration with 3GPP, and we are a long-term advocate for technology standardization and global industry ecosystem creation. In his new role, Johansson will focus on finalizing the upcoming Release-16, as well as oversee and contribute to the standardization work of future standards releases.

In the last decade MediaTek has quadrupled its number of published technical papers and has actively contributed to the core of 5G technologies, which continues today. This commitment has been recognized by our industry counterparts, and since 2015 MediaTek has been honored as the host of several technical meetings for 3GPP.
