MediaTek pushes the boundaries of what’s possible to deliver innovations that solve complex challenges and enhance everyday life. Many of these innovations will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next week in Las Vegas.

For the second year in a row, MediaTek was selected as a CES 2024 Innovation Awards honoree in the Embedded Technologies product category. This year, the MediaTek MT6825 chipset was selected as an honoree. This standalone IoT-NTN (non-terrestrial network) chipset is designed to be integrated into any flagship smartphone to deliver seamless satellite connectivity experiences and keep users connected in areas where cellular coverage is unreliable or unavailable.

The CES Innovation Awards is an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products. An independent panel of industry expert judges, including members of the media, designers, and engineers, have recognized MediaTek’s MT6825 chipset based on a criteria of innovation, functionality, aesthetic, and design.

The MT6825 is based on the 3GPP Release 17 (R17) NTN open standard. Once a device has been certified for 3GPP R17 IoT-NTN, it can be used on any IoT-NTN compliant network. This is a huge advantage to OEMs looking to bring products to market quickly. The MT6825 is also extremely power-efficient, enabling longer battery life to give end users peace of mind when hiking or driving through rural areas that lack consistent connectivity.

Satellite connectivity is filling the gaps in mobile coverage for applications like messaging, tracking, and emergency service. It’s also opening new market opportunities in remote monitoring of utilities, infrastructure management, maritime, connected agriculture, fleet management, telematics, and more. The NB-IoT transceiver within the MT6825 chip contains the 3GPP R13/R14 radio, baseband and MAC that are designed for low-power operations. This can extend battery life for years, making the MT6825 perfect for powering emergency critical devices and applications.

In 2024, MediaTek will continue to build its next generation IoT-NTN and NR-NTN technology to power the next wave of satellite-enabled devices in consumer, enterprise, and industrial use cases.
