In the recent interview by Digitimes, TL Lee, MediaTek General Manager of Wireless Communication, discussed our latest Dimensity 1000 SoC and was asked about MediaTek's 5G NR versus mmWave strategy.

Q: MediaTek has introduced its first 5G SoC series designed for sub-6GHz networks. Why designing sub-6GHz solutions is your first choice?

A: Actually we have been engaged in the development of 5G SoCs for both sub-6GHz and mmWave networks at the same time. Then strategically, we decided to roll out sub-6GHz solutions first according to data and information disclosed by GSMA. GSMA has disclosed that among the 51 telecom carriers which have developed 5G technology, as many as 48 choose sub-6GHz networks and two plan to support both mmWave and sub-6GHz. Only one carrier has developed mmWave. Therefore, MediaTek's product roadmap is based on customer demand and market trends.
