The OPPO A3 is powered by the MediaTek Helio P60. It combines a powerful octa-core CPU mixing ARM Cortex-A73 and -A53 core types with a fast ARM Mali G72-series GPU and high performance, multi-core AI processor. This, altogether, is overseen by MediaTek's CorePilot 4 to ensure sustainable long-term performance, and the whole SoC is manufactured on the latest, power-efficient 12nm production process.

The A3 pairs the MediaTek Helio P60 to 4GB of memory and 128GB of storage, and the smartphone is powered by a large 3,400mAh battery. It runs Oppo's ColorOS 5.1 based on Android 8.1.

The A3 sports a large 6.2-inch Full HD+ display (2280 x 1080) with a beautifully tall aspect ratio of 19:9 and pin-sharp 405 PPI. Its striking rear cover design shows off a multi-level diamond texture that changes color change when viewed at different angles. This is due to a 10-micron continuous relief engraving, 36 micron-level processing and 24 layers of optical diffraction. This design can be bought in either silver or black options.

At the back the OPPO A3 sports a 16MP camera and uses AI software that is able to identify over 120 scenes and use on-the-fly photographic enhancements to match different shooting conditions, ensuring the best results. The horsepower behind the AI is provided by the P60's AI Processing Unit (APU). At the front is an 8MP selfie camera which features OPPO's AI beauty 2.0 technology; this analyses 296 facial features and personal attributes such as age, gender and more, and optimizes the picture parameters to provide the best selfies.
