The MT8516 2-Mic Development Kit for Amazon AVS is a robust and highly customizable development kit for Amazon or 3rd party WWE, support for Alexa Multi-Room Music (MRM) service, plus MediaTek Far-Field and PowerAQTM technologies. The kit alleviates engineering effort and enables brands to focus on product differentiation and faster time-to-market.

The development kit uses the MediaTek MT8516 with Far-Field Algorithm; a highly efficient, peripheral-rich audio-AP platform designed for Amazon Alexa built-in devices, such as smart speakers, soundbars and smart appliances or other in-home smart products whose primary interface is natural-voice recognition.

The Yocto SDK provides highly flexible and simple customization. Developers can take advantage of project frameworks to simplify the process of creating new embedded systems. Yocto also provides standard voice and audio interfaces, such as ALSA for voice/audio in/out, saving product developers time and cost when pushing for deeper customizations and unique features.

MT8516 SoC


The MT8516 SoC is powered by a quad-core 64-bit ARM® Cortex®-A35 MPCoreTM operating at up to 1.3 GHz. The efficient AP performs audio processing and far-field calculations, eliminating the need for an additional DSP. With MediaTek PowerAQTM product engineers have an easy GUI interface to perform signal flow design and audio parameter tuning.

In addition to raw NAND support, it enables flexible memory options including LPDDR2, LPDDR3, DDR3 and DDR3L to accommodate diverse platform needs. An extensive set of interfaces, such as I2Sx2 (4 channels), TDM (up to 8 channels) and PDM inputs (2 channels) are included for microphone voice input control and connected audio products. Connectivity includes USB 2.0 OTG, 10/100 Ethernet MAC, HDMI 1.4 Tx with ARC, SPDIF, and embedded two channel audio DAC and ADC.

The MT8516 platform integrates both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with RF on a single chip. This not only provides design simplicity, reducing time to market, but also reduces the platform size allowing ever smaller, more efficient product design opportunities.
