MediaTek and Samsung Achieve 3Tx 5-Layer 5G Uplink Breakthrough

MediaTek and Samsung have successfully completed the industry's first test of a 3Tx 5-layer uplink configuration using the MediaTek M90 5G modem platform together with Samsung's virtualized RAN (vRAN), Massive MIMO radios (MMU), and macro radios.

This joint demonstration sets a new benchmark for 5G uplink performance and unlocks richer cloud and immersive experiences. The achievement also strengthens FWA performance by delivering significantly improved uplink peak speeds.

The trial leveraged a multi-band setup that combined n66 (1.7 GHz) as the primary cell with dual n77 (3.7 GHz) carriers across five uplink layers, delivering industry-leading speed and efficiency. The n66 band operated with 30 MHz of bandwidth, while the n77 band utilized a combined total of 200 MHz. Together, they achieved a remarkable total uplink throughput of 670 Mbps.
