MediaTek demonstrates live NR-NTN LEO satellite connection at Wireless Japan 2026

MediaTek recently achieved the world’s first successful connection to a LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellite using a 3GPP Rel-19 5G-Advanced NR-NTN connection. At the Wireless Japan 2026, MediaTek recreated this milestone in a live demonstration using a next-generation MediaTek 5G-Advanced modem and Rohde & Schwarz’s CMX500, bringing live NR-NTN capabilities to the show floor for attendees to witness.

As satellite communications and cellular networks continue to converge, NR-NTN is becoming a key technology for enhancing connectivity resilience, extending coverage, and enabling new use cases.
