MediaTek and Dolby Laboratories Showcase Solutions for Next Generation Soundbars with Dolby Atmos FlexConnect at CES 2025

MediaTek announced that the company is working with Dolby Laboratories to bring Dolby Atmos FlexConnect to the next generation of soundbars. This week, at CES 2025, the two companies provided a preview of this latest offering through a prototype soundbar, demonstrating the technological solution that are made possible through Dolby’s latest innovation combined with MediaTek’s long track record of audio and connectivity expertise.Dolby Atmos FlexConnect is a feature that seamlessly pairs together a sound bar with accessory wireless speakers to unlock a more extensive and immersive Dolby Atmos sound experience. Once connected, the system intelligently optimizes your Dolby Atmos experience for any room layout and speaker setup – transforming any seat into the best seat in the house.

MediaTek’s solution for Dolby Atmos FlexConnect fully integrates several connectivity chipsets, consisting of audio (MT8532/8518), WiFi (MT792x), and Bluetooth (Airoha AB1565). It can also be utilized as a turnkey to enable manufacturers to quickly and efficiently develop more high-quality audio products that feature Dolby Atmos FlexConnect.

Consumers want the best possible audio out of their sound system, but some rooms make it impossible to place speakers in their optimal positions. Unique wall layouts, the location of power outlets, and furniture arrangements can complicate matters. Furthermore, many consumers are not willing to trade aesthetic appeal for sound performance. Without Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, most sound systems will assume the speakers are set in reference locations and playback performance and precision is reduced.

Dolby Atmos FlexConnect unlocks the freedom to place one or more wireless speakers anywhere in a room without having to worry about whether they are placed perfectly. The solution is also easily adaptable when more device types are added, which will allow manufacturers to innovate with how they bring together different device combinations and form factors to meet the needs of their consumers.
