MediaTek first to officially certify on Skylo satellite network

The MediaTek MT6825 is the first 5G NTN chip to be officially certified for the Skylo satellite network. This milestone paves the way for robust global connectivity beyond traditional 5G terrestrial network coverage. It empowers key industries such as messaging, tracking, and emergency services, as well as large-scale satellite IoT applications such as remote monitoring of utilities, infrastructure management, maritime, connected agriculture, fleet management, telematics, and more.
The MediaTek MT6825 chipset has undergone rigorous testing at Skylo and by third-parties as part of Skylo’s certification process, ensuring its optimal performance and seamless integration with its advanced NTN.

Launched in 2023, the MediaTek MT6825 was the first 3GPP R17-compliant 5G NTN chip that brought two-way satellite communications via L- and S-bands to smartphones and mobile devices, such as Bullitt Group-manufactured devices, including the motorola defy satellite link and Cat® S75 smartphones.

In reflection of its success, the chip was awarded the “Disruptive Device Innovation Award” at the Asia Mobile Awards held during MWC Shanghai 2023.

“This certification is a significant indication that as NTN technology continues to develop, our vision of a more connected world between loved ones and emergency services, regardless of location, also comes closer to reality,” said Cliff Lin, Assistant General Manager of MediaTek. “We look forward to seeing the diverse range of applications and devices that will be enabled as a result of our continuing work with Skylo.”
