Survey: Indian smartphone buyers look for the best performance

Indian smartphone buyers prioritize processor performance when choosing a device, with 28% of respondents believing it significantly impacts overall device performance. This is followed by battery life, 5G connectivity, and camera quality, according to a recent consumer survey conducted by Counterpoint Research. Consumers aim to make informed purchase decisions and are now willing to pay a premium for faster processors to ensure better performance.

Shivani Parashar, Senior Research Analyst at Counterpoint Research, emphasized that 84% of respondents understand the role of chipsets and that consumers are willing to pay for faster, more efficient devices. This is noteworthy since MediaTek currently dominates the Indian smartphone market with over a 50% market share.

With the rise of generative AI, smartphones are experiencing a new wave of performance demands, driving chipset makers to develop NPU hardware to support intelligent, secure, and personalized experiences. Over 80% of respondents are aware of MediaTek's AI initiatives.
