Environmental Management
We are committed to promoting green environmental protection and energy-saving and carbon reduction actions, seeking any possible climate change mitigation and adaptation measures. MediaTek has implemented the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, following the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) management cycle, using a systematic management approach to maintain consistency between environmental protection goals and execution strategies, and establishing pollution prevention and improvement mechanisms, enabling MediaTek to exert greater influence on environmental protection. In addition, the Company has also passed the certification audit for the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System. The goal lies in the guarantee of workplace health and safety through systematic management.
We are a global fabless semiconductor company, primarily focused on IC design. Wafer manufacturing, packaging, testing, and other production operations are all outsourced to external vendors. Therefore, MediaTek focuses on implementing green product design, green procurement and management of outsourced vendors, and reducing resource and energy waste while ensuring employee safety and health. This is not only MediaTek’s corporate sustainability strategy but also one of the important assets for future international competitiveness. MediaTek actively implements environmental policy through the following four major management actions, with environmental protection investment in 2025 of approximately NT$91.1 million:

As of 2025, our cumulative investments in green bonds total approximately NT$1.6 billion.
In 2025, we added an NT$100 million investment in a green bond (short name: P14 TSMC 3A, code: B618E2), which is recognized by the Taipei Exchange (TPEx) as a Green Bond.
MediaTek has been committed to energy-saving and carbon reduction measures. Total electricity consumption in 2025 was 187,632 thousand kWh, a decrease of 1.5% compared to the previous year, due to increased use of self-generated solar photovoltaic renewable energy and other carbon reduction measures. The parent company’s power saving ratio reached 16.7% in 2025, exceeding the 2024 target of 16.5%. The Company will continue to plan and implement various energy reduction measures, including upgrading legacy data centers to new immersion cooling technology data centers, expanding solar power plant construction, and renewable energy procurement. The 2026 power saving target has been ambitiously doubled to 35.9%.

1. Improving Efficiency in High-Density Energy-Efficient Data Centers
By improving power systems, air conditioning, racks, aisles, and lighting, we’ve broken the limitations of traditional data rooms and successfully transformed them into next-generation, high-density, energy-efficient data centers. These can support the demanding power and requirements of modern servers, becoming a strong backing for tech R&D. The overall PUE of the new data centers reaches 1.33, compared to 1.6 in traditional data rooms, improving energy efficiency by 17% and achieving the gold level of LEED green building certification. The full load power saving benefit reached 20.3 million kWh.
2. All Operational Buildings Use LED Energy-Saving Lighting
Before 2024, all old buildings’ energy-consuming fluorescent lighting was progressively replaced with energy-saving LED. MediaTek successfully achieved the goal of LED energy saving lighting in all office buildings in 2024, with total investment exceeding NT$70 million and power saving benefits of approximately 8.4 million kWh per year. The new Tongluo data center completed in 2025 has LED energy-saving lighting installed throughout the building and has obtained nomination for Diamond-level Green Building certification, expected to officially pass by end of 2026.
3. Solar power system
Four rooftop solar power plants at Hsinchu Science Park began self-consumption power generation in 2025, with installed capacity of 709 kW and annual generation of 860,000 kWh. Compared to 2025 electricity consumption of 190.5 million kWh, this accounts for approximately 0.5%. After plant installation, rooftop temperatures can be reduced by approximately 3-5 ° C, reducing top-floor office air conditioning consumption. The new Tongluo data center also had a 235 kW rooftop solar power plant installed in 2025, expected to begin self-consumption generation from early 2026.
Greenhouse gas emissions are the primary factors for causing climate change. Starting 2025, MediaTek introduced a carbon management system, using the operational control approach to assist in conducting consolidated company GHG inventory and assurance operations. The Company will continue to use the carbon management system for operations in the future to fully grasp the GHG emission situation. MediaTek’s GHG emissions from energy and resource use include purchased electricity, public utilities, boilers, cooling towers, and chillers, with the primary emission source being Scope 2 purchased electricity accounting for 96.29% of total emissions. Despite continued growth in the Company’s operational scale, we are committed to improving energy use efficiency and planning renewable energy use to reduce GHG emissions from operations. Major reduction measures in 2025 include expanding use of self-generated solar renewable energy, continuously improving data center energy efficiency, using LED lighting in all offices, and chiller group co-supply to reduce operating units, thereby improving electricity efficiency. Additionally, the Company continues to monitor climate actions including the global Renewable Energy Initiative (RE100), planning to use 2020 as the baseline year (baseline year total Scope 1 & Scope 2 emissions of the Company and consolidated financial report subsidiaries: 84,545 ton CO2e), reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 40% by 2030, and achieving the net-zero emission target by 2050. The Company simultaneously commits to achieving 100% renewable energy for global group office electricity (excluding data centers) by 2030, and 100% renewable energy use for the entire global group by 2050 as a long-term target. Increasing renewable energy use is currently one of the main corporate carbon reduction methods globally and is a necessary means for MediaTek to reduce GHG emissions. In 2026, the Company will expand renewable energy procurement, with planned annual use of 50 million kWh of externally purchased solar power, carbon reduction of approximately 23,700 tons, representing approximately 18.7% reduction compared to 2025 group-wide carbon emissions. The Company will continue to expand renewable energy use in subsequent years to progressively achieve corporate GHG reduction goals.
Planning to use 2020 as the baseline year, reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions (purchased goods or services, fuel and energy-related activities, use of sold products) by 25% by 2030. To this end, the Company will continue to promote various upstream and downstream reduction measures, working hand-in-hand with value chain partners toward the 2050 net-zero emission target. To effectively reduce carbon emissions from employee commuting, MediaTek proactively implements environmental measures through transportation-related issues closely relevant to employees, reducing transportation carbon emissions by approximately 435 ton CO2e in 2025. In addition to maintaining fixed-route bus shuttles and electric shuttles between offices, 21 electric vehicle charging stations have been installed, concretely responding to low-carbon trends. Additionally, in March 2023, MediaTek partnered with Gogoro to launch the first corporate battery-swapping station in the Science Park, with cumulative carbon reduction reaching 225 metric tons from launch through the end of 2025.


*In accordance with the GHG Protocol, MediaTek conducted a greenhouse gas inventory and reported Scope 3 Category 3 emissions (Fuel- and Energy-Related Activities Not Included in Scope 1 or Scope 2), which amounted to 18,319.348 tCO₂e in 2025. Scope 3 Category 13 (Downstream Leased Assets) and Category 14 (Franchises) were deemed not applicable, as the Company had no relevant activities under these categories. The inventory covered the Hsinchu Science Park, Zhubei, Taipei, and Tainan offices.

MediaTek’s office water is sourced from local water treatment plants. In 2025, with continued expansion of IT data center scale and increased headcount, total water withdrawal was 526,935 metric tons (approximately 527 million liters), a marginal increase of 0.4% compared to the previous year. Although total water consumption increased, MediaTek continues water resource improvement projects with various water reduction measures, achieving total savings of approximately 23,854 metric tons. The new Tongluo data center will significantly use recycled water starting from 2026, expanding water resource savings. For risk control, the WRI Aqueduct tool referencing IPCC RCP 8.5 scenario was used for simulation confirmation, confirming that Taiwan sites are not located in high water stress areas. As MediaTek’s operations continue to grow and expand, water management practices are simultaneously improved. The water saving rate was 4.3% in 2025, with continued water-saving practices in subsequent years to maintain the annual water saving target rate of 4% or above. In addition, all offices in Taiwan obtained ISO 14046 certification for their water withdrawal data from 2023 to 2025. Wastewater is primarily domestic sewage, uniformly processed by wastewater treatment plants through the local sewer system and discharged to natural water bodies without impact to the local environment. In 2025, 287,457 metric tons (approximately 287 million liters) of wastewater was discharged.

In partnering with the Environmental Protection Bureau, we have become the first company in the Science Park to install recycling machines
To achieve resource recovery and reuse, we have strengthened waste management with emphasis on waste reduction, effective classification, recycling, reuse, and proper disposal, while continuously improving the environmental impact of waste storage, transportation, and treatment. MediaTek strictly selects qualified waste disposal and recycling partners and conducts irregular audits of waste removal process legality, fulfilling supervisory responsibilities. The waste treatment recycling rate was 28% in 2025, with continued efforts to increase recycling rates or reduce non-recyclable waste to achieve continuous improvement targets. Additionally, we are the first company in the Science Park to partner with the Environmental Protection Bureau to install recycling machines, also providing relevant performance records for other companies to reference. As MediaTek’s operations continue to grow and expand, waste management practices are simultaneously improved and optimized to maintain the annual recycling ratio target of 25% or above.

Following the official release of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) in 2023, global attention to biodiversity issues has been increasing. MediaTek deeply recognizes the importance of biodiversity to the Earth’s ecosystem and understands the critical role forests play in maintaining ecological balance, regulating climate, and providing resources essential for human survival. To this end, MediaTek supports international initiatives including the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and the Sustainable Development Goals, and published its Biodiversity Statement and corresponding measures in August 2025.
MediaTek's habitat volunteer action visited the Nature Valley Environmental Trust base to assist in bamboo forest thinning operations. The thinning area in 2025 was approximately 0.3 hectares, part of the 1.2-hectare trust land managed by the Company. Moderate thinning helps improve stand structure, reduce competition, and enhance health, thereby increasing subsequent carbon sequestration and reducing pest and disease issues. Through hands-on participation in habitat management, employees deepen their awareness and understanding of natural ecology conservation. This action successfully responds to Taiwan's 2050 Net-Zero Transition "Natural Carbon Sinks" key strategic action of "Forest 2-2: Promoting aging bamboo forest renewal to revitalize bamboo forest carbon sequestration capacity."
MediaTek deeply recognizes the importance of biodiversity to the Earth's ecosystem. Since 2024, MediaTek has partnered with the Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation to actively implement tree planting and afforestation plans. As of 2025, 2,000 saplings have been planted in areas including Zhubei Crescent Bay coastal forest and Yilan Wujie coast, with estimated annual carbon sequestration of 13.1847 (ton CO₂e/year). This action successfully responds to Taiwan's 2050 Net-Zero Transition "Natural Carbon Sinks" key strategic action of "Forest 1-1: Implementing new afforestation on national, public, and private lands to increase forest coverage and carbon sink capacity."
Additionally, MediaTek also plans to donate NT$1 million to the Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation for subsequent coastal forest tree maintenance. Looking ahead, MediaTek plans to continue recruiting employees for volunteer tree planting activities in 2026, jointly maintaining biodiversity and supporting forest conservation through actual participation in afforestation, while raising employees' awareness of natural ecology conservation and responding to ecological conservation principles through action.
Partnering with National Taiwan University to preserve old trees within the Hsinchu High Speed Rail office building site.
MediaTek's Hsinchu High-Speed Rail office building broke ground in 2024. During the construction period (2022-2027), an industry-academia collaboration with National Taiwan University was conducted to preserve century-old banyan trees and the "Shisanjia Earth God Temple," creating an old-tree cultural park and civic plaza for public recreation, with continued project funding for tree maintenance to reduce construction impacts.
MediaTek's building constructed in the Miaoli County Tongluo Science Park established diverse biological habitats, preserving 9 existing trees including Trema orientalis, and following the "right tree in the right place" principle, additionally planting 194 native species trees across an area of approximately 0.23 hectares, with estimated annual carbon sequestration of 1.3382 (ton CO₂e/year) Note. Additionally, at the HC-F building in the Science Park, tree habitat remediation and brown root rot disease control programs were conducted, preserving a total of 113 existing precious native tree species including slash pine, Japanese black pine, and camphor trees. The preserved native trees have an estimated annual carbon sequestration of 0.7449 (ton CO₂e/year)Note.
Furthermore, MediaTek's India office also participated in the "Sustainability Hope Saplings" activity in 2025, with MediaTekers volunteers planting 28 saplings, injecting green vitality into the new office site. In the future, MediaTek will continue to pay attention to biodiversity-related issues, gradually incorporating nature-positive concepts into operations and decision-making processes, reducing potential impacts on the ecological environment through concrete action plans, and working with stakeholders to promote ecological conservation and sustainable development, advancing toward nature-positive goals.
Note: The method for estimating tree carbon sequestration refers to the data from the "Fourth National Forest Resources Survey Report" and the "National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report - Chapter 6: Land Use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry Sector."
